Canada beats Sweden 3-1 to win the World Junior Hockey Championship . In a final game played in NewYork Buffalo, team Canada downed the Swedish side 3-1 .

Canada’s boys erupted with joy at the end of the game . Tyler Steenbergen ,Dillon Dube and Alex Formenton scored for Canada . Golie, Carter Hart made several saves to give Canada the Gold . 

US beats Czech Republic to win the 3rd place title . 

 

Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba smashed the women’s 1500m World Indoor Record at the IAAF Indoor track and field meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany on Saturday.  Dibaba, the reigning World Indoor world champion, dusted a quality field by almost 13 seconds, winning in 3 minutes and 55.17 seconds to erase the eight year-old record of 3:58.28 set by Russia’s Yelena Soboleva in 2006. Ethiopians sweep podium at 15th Dubai Marathon; Both in Men and Women!

For the third year in a row, a marathon ‘new boy’ won the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon as teenager Tsegaye Mekonnen led an Ethiopian sweep in the emirate on Friday. The 18 year-old caused a major surprise, running 2h:04m:32s in his first marathon, to break the unofficial World Junior Record by 95 seconds and record the second fastest time ever seen in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon.

The second and third placed athletes also achieved world-class times of sub 2:06 with fellow Ethiopians Markos Geneti and Girmay Birhanu finishing in 2:05:13 and 2:05:49 respectively. As expected the women’s race was also dominated by Ethiopians, who took the first nine places. Continue reading

Abebech Bekele of Ethiopia held on to win the women’s race in 2:25:52. It was her first-ever victory in a marathon, although she has run faster previously. She staved off a late challenge by two of her countrywomen to also earn $40,000 with her victory.

“I’m really happy and excited, coming to Houston,” Bekele said. “This is my first marathon to win but I participated in four other marathons.” Continue reading
