Hannah Yohannes nominated as 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women

A Toronto based award winning-Eritrean Canadian screen writer and film maker Hannah Yohannes has been nominated as one of the 100 accomplished black Canadian women in 2018.

Hannah told ethiofidel.com that she was selected because of her contribution in relaying stories of immigrants to the Canadian society through her own individual stories. “I was selected based on my contributions as a filmmaker who advocates for others through my visual storytelling and for speaking and connecting with our community regarding my immigrant experiences coming to Canada.” Says Hannah

She will be published in a magazine alongside other prominent Black Canadian women including Jean Augustine, the first African-Canadian woman to be elected to the Canadian House of Commons and the first to serve in the federal Cabinet.

Asked by ethiofidel.com to name the bigest achievement of Black communities in Canada, Hanna said serving the community in a united way is the ultimate success of any given community.  “  I think the highest achievement for any human being is to give back to our community, to love and unite together.” She remarks

For the East African native film maker Hannah, knowing our Black history is important and essential to passing knowledge of history to future generations.

Hannah will be screening her short film, Home Away, on February 23rd at Black Filmmaker’s: Short Film Screening and Talk back event. It will be hosted at the AMP Studio Cafe from 9-11pm.
