Toronto Black film Festival ( TBFF) kicks off with Glamour

The Toronto Black Film Festival #TBFF 16, officially started yesterday at the Isabel Bader Theater.

The festival expected to run until February 14 is showing a line up of short films, feature films and documentaries among others.

At yesterday’s Red Carpet inaugural event of the 2016 TBFF, organizers noted that the movies will be shown at the Isabel Bader Theatre, Carlton Cinema, Art Gallery of Ontario and more.

Coinciding with the 5oth anniversary of the Black Panther Party, TBFF will offer a special presentation of 23 American movies.

What is more special this year is the Career Achievement Award to the Oscar-nominated actress Alfre Woodward to be followed by the International Premiere of Ben Bowman’s KNUCKLEHEAD on Saturday, February 13, 2016, 9PM at Jackman Hall – Art Gallery of Ontario –

Woodard has won four Emmys, three SAG Awards, one Golden Globe, and two Independent Spirit Awards and was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Cross Creek.

Kwame Damon Mason, producer of Soul on Ice , a documentary that shows how Black athletes are making a name in the Hockey field, told ethiofidel that the story of Black Hockey players is an inspiration to other youth to excel in the sport.

The actors and producers at the TBFF believes that the Festival will be great way to encourage upcoming movie makers and will promote diversity in the Canadian film industry

For young film makers, actors and actresses, I am telling you if it is something you love to do, you don’t have to stop keep pushing” says one of the actors Thato Dhladla. The festival starts with Ernest Nikosi’s “Thina Sobabii” (The two of us) a South African movie.

The TBFF will also feature a documentary about a successful Black Business man in Toronto. The movie chronicles the successful Black Entrepreneur Wes Hall who is the founder of Kingsdale Share holder service.
