Ethiopians in Toronto show love for R&B star- The weeknd

Ethiopians in Toronto expressed their love to the Ethiopian origin Canadian R&B star Abel Tesfaye, better known as The weeknd.

In an interview with ethiofidel.com, Ethiopians in Toronto convey their pride in Abel’s achievement. For some, he is an inspiration to their passion. “I am also a singer and The Weeknd is my role model” says Eyerusalem Anteneh who dreams big to one day perform alongside The Weeknd.

The multiple award winning musicians, The weeknd, has become a pride among Ethiopian around the world after his successful music carrier. He is probably the first Ethiopian origin to be nominated for the Oscar.

Rozina, a young Ethiopian is crazy about each track by The Weeknd. She is amazed by his achievement and above all she is proud that he is from Ethiopia.

“I was moved when I first listened to Amharic lyrics in his songs. That’s so cool. I met his mom in Toronto. She is so nice. I wish I meet him one day too” she says.

The community wants to see The weeknd come closer.

Samuel Getachew, a community activist and Estifanos Yeshanew a business man want The weeknd to perform in the upcoming Ethiopia soccer festival in Toronto and stage a concert back in Ethiopia.

In his few interviews, Abel Tesfaye (The weeknd) showed his affection to his Ethiopian root and his long time connection to Ethiopian music.
