Ethiopian, Gezahegn, among the top 25 immigrants in Canada

Ethiopian Dr. Gezahegn Wordofa received the RBC top 25 Immigrants award for his tireless contribution in helping immigrant communities.

Under the watchful eyes of his wife Nicole, Gezahegn took his award at a ceremony attended by Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada , Chris Alexander .

Providing volunteer services in Canada for four years and assisting refugees and newcomers for quite some time, Gezahegn is determined to continue the hard work.

“I will keep on helping immigrants and newcomers in every way I can “says Gezahegn in an Exclusive interview with ethiofidel.

His volunteer work in helping immigrants stretched back to his time in Russia as an immigrant. After he moved to Canada four years ago to join his wife, Gezahegn continued to volunteer with United way and Salivation Army .

The now Stratford resident Gezahegn founded the Multicultural Association of Perth- Huron to further impact the lives of immigrants.

“I am proud of being Ethiopian” says Gezahegn .  His desire to give back to his home country Ethiopia is leading him to help raise funds for Health Clinics and Schools back there.

The one time recipient of the Governor General Award told ethiofidel this latest award is dearest to his heart as it motivates him to help others.

The Award organized by RBC and Canadian immigrant Magazine allowed Canadians to vote among 3,000 contenders and pick 25 online. Honouring the 25 top immigrants in Canada, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Chris Alexander said Canada acknowledges the contributions by immigrants.

Our government is pleased to recognize the hard work of the talented individuals who choose to settle in Canada and who make valuable contributions to their new communities and the Canadian economy “.
