Toronto Celebrates the 200th birth day of Canada’s first Prime Minister –Sir John A.Macdonald

The gathering at the Royal York Hotel tossed their glasses chanting” Macdonald, you will never die.”

Hosted by TVO’s Steve Paikin, the event saw a line up of speakers including the first female Prime minister of Canada, Kim Campbell, the Governor General of Ontario Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell and the Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne

 

The dignitaries commended Sir John A .MacDonald as a man behind the formation of today’s Canada. He was also praised at the event as a person who accomplished great projects of his time like the Canada Railway

Macdonald has also been criticized for his mistreatment of the Native Indians in Canada. His biography also indicated that he has an alcoholic behaviour and was involved in corruption.

The unveiling of a statue for Sir John A Macdonald was the peak of the night with a standing ovation for the architectural work.

At the event organized by The Friends of Sir John A. MacDonald ,the chief of the Mississauga of the New credit First nations performed a song.

 

While celebrating the legacy of the late Prime minister Macdonald, Participants came with various costumes and traditional outfits which showcase the multicultural face of the present Canada.
