Ethiopian-Canadian awarded for excellence in community development

Ethiopian Canadian recieved an award at Planet Africa`s annual award ceremony on saturday November 8,2014 .

Liben Gebremikael is the first and current Executive director of TAIBU Community Health center in Toronto Canada.

Liben has been working as a social worker, Child & Family Therapist, Project Coordinator, Therapeutic Group Facilitator and Manager in the UK and Canada. His organization TAIBU (translated as “be in good health“) provides health services for people of African descent in Malvern Ontario.
Liben thanked his staff and board in his acceptance speech for their continued hard work.
Accepting his award in front of his two daughters, Liben hoped his award will be an inspiration for all especially for young people.

In an exclusive interview with ethiofidel.com, he said extreme dedication helped him overcome barriers he faced as a newcomer in any country .And he has a vision of the future where newcomer communities are encouraged to access health care services. “I want to see African Canadians accessing more and more health care services“ he says.
The planet Africa Award was described by the President & CEO of Silver trust Media Moses Mawa as one that celebrates perseverance.
At the Misisuaga convention center event, more than 15 recipients took award in entertainment, humanity, leadership, media music, academics and more categories.

This time last year, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam received an excellence in leadership award from Planet Africa Group .
